uses

I get a lot of questions about the tools I use for different parts of my work, so inspired by my this, I've put together this "uses" page that covers every part of my setup

All the links below are not affiliated, which means I don't get paid or get rewarded in any way if you use them to purchase, the rest are all tools and services I actually use.

workstation

13" MacBook Pro M1, 8GB of RAM (2020)

Prior to this I was using a ThinkPad as my main machine. This machine is powerful and is portable as well" — really love this computer.

Lama orthopedic office seat

expensive but worth every penny for me.

Height Adjustable Electric Standing Desk

I think it's a great desk. It's quite big, and super stable. I stand probably 25% of the time and don't really find the lack of presets to be a problem. - I love it

VS Code

I love using Visual Studio Code for my code editor on my MacBook! I love how lightweight and responsive it is. I also love the integrated terminal and extensions in this editor. I have not had any responsiveness issues when adding extensions. Visual Studio is a great IDE but in all honesty I use only about 25% of its capabilities for writing code. You can also use it for projects outside of .NET. It can be used for Ruby, Javascript, Python, PHP, and many more.

Chrome

I'd like to give Firefox another shot one day but for now still using Chrome for both development and general browsing.

Sizzy

Sizzy is a cool browser specifically for responsive design. It lets you view all of the breakpoints for a site at the same time and also does a good job auto-scaling fixed size viewports to fit whatever window size you're using. It hasn't found its way into my main development workflow yet but I use it a lot for screencasting, presentations, and live streams.

iTerm2

Love this terminal, I especially like being able to create keyboard shortcuts that run terminal commands. I use `cmd+enter` for `git status` for example.

Warp

Warp is a serios boon for everyone looking for help on the commandline. It's pretty and great to see first-class theming support and I will say that warp looks great out of the box - even using the default theme.

GitHub

I keep all my public and private repositories on GitHub. GitHub has a large and active community of developers. This means that there are a wealth of resources available to developers, including tutorials, blog posts, and open source projects.

Figma

Figma is like Sketch but a million times more performant and cross-platform. It's the most impressive web app I've ever used.

hosting

Netlify

For my static sites, I use Netlify. It is probably my favorite app that I interact with on a regular basis. The UI is beautiful, the experience is awesome, and the app is insanely fast. I get excited every time I have an excuse to use it for something new.

Vercel

Vercel really shines when it comes to security and performance. Their hosting infrastructure is very reliable, which gives me peace of mind for my projects.: I really like how easy it is to deploy my Next.js apps on Vercel. You just connect your git repository and in a few minutes your project is online. The best part? You get all of these in very afforable pricing. The Free Plan is really a life-saver.

productivity

Todoist

I use Todoist to keep track of my todos. I really like the scheduled and recurring tasks features, lets me use Todoist for a lot of stuff that you might normally put in a calendar.

1Password

Such a great password manager, installing this for the first time was life-changing.
